The suburban town in the Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead in Berkshire is best known as the site of Windsor Castle, in fact the castle is just a 5 minute walk from our offices situated on St Leonards Road. Windsor is linked to the town of Eton by Windsor Bridge, it originally was a fully trafficked road bridge but is now for pedestrians and cyclists only providing an excellent walking route from Windsor to Eton's High Street.
There truly is something for everyone in Windsor, a shoppers paradise you will be spoiled for choice between High Street retailers, designer labels, department stores, antique shops and, as Windsor is a tourist attraction, specialist and souvenir shops.
Having 'shopped 'til you drop' what could be better than to relax in one of the wide ranging, suiting all tastes and budgets, restaurants, wine bars, historic pubs and cafes available. The nearby picturesque village of Bray is home to the three-Michelin starred restaurants Waterside Inn (Roux Brothers) and Fat Duck (Heston Blumenthal) - fine dining indeed!
Nearby Bray Lake, open all year round, has all types of watersports available including windsurfing, kayaking, dingy sailing and power boating. It offers training courses for numerous sports and is perfect for the more energetic of you.
Windsor Leisure Centre, set in a prime location overlooking the River Thames, is a great place to get fit and have fun. Facilities include a 25 metre 6 lane fitness pool, leisure pool with wave machine, giant slides, spa pool, gym, and sports hall - whatever your age there's something to suit all.
The beautiful Theatre Royal stands in the shadow of Windsor Castle and is the only unsubsidised producing theatre to operate all year round in Britain. It is one of Britain's leading theatres and productions ranging from classic and traditional pantomime to first productions of new work, some of which subsequently transfer to the West End.
Located close to the town centre Alexandra Gardens, Windsor's riverside park. Offering a spectacular view over the battlements of Windsor Castle, Windsor and Eton and the countryside beyond.
Windsor is home to the renowned Guards Polo Club, which has the Royal seal of approval with the Duke of Edinburgh as its President, and located on the historic Smith's Lawn, which in the summer months also plays host to the Windsor Park Equestrian Club. The town also hosts the Royal Windsor Horse Show.
For those of you who 'fancy a flutter' Royal Windsor Racecourse holds race meetings from April to October including the very popular Monday evening meetings during the summer months. There is an attractive boat ride downstream of Windsor Bridge direct to the racecourse on race days and evenings that link with incoming trains.
Windsor has two railway stations: Windsor and Eton Central has a shuttle service to Slough which has access to trains into London Paddington and west to Maidenhead, Reading and the West Country. Windsor and Eton Riverside station provides a service to London Waterloo. By car Windsor is accessible from Junction 6 of the M4 motorway, near its junction with the M25. London Heathrow is just over 8 miles from Windsor making national and international travel highly convenient.
